Monarch Plank Herringbone Hardwood Floor Installation

Have you ever received a call out of the blue, and the person on the other end was talking about your dream installation? That is exactly what this project was for us! A Dream Job! Our client from Buckeye, Arizona had called us and said, “We are building our dream home, and we want herringbone hardwood floors with borders everywhere in our home. Can you help?” “Of course, we can help. Have you picked out the material yet?” I asked. The customer replied, “Monarch Plank Lago Collection Ampola Oak.”

 


Herringbone is one of the most popular hardwood flooring installation styles because it combines a natural material look with extra visual interest. This can help bring drama and atmosphere to a room without having to go big and bold in other elements of the design – wall color, furniture, rugs, artwork, etc.

Monarch Plank crafts a beautifully engineered hardwood floor with a thick 3mm top wear layer. A perfect profile for Arizona! Monarch Plank offers the material in a 7-inch plank or a 4/3/8 X 26-inch herringbone pattern. Both platforms are 9/16 thick and can be glued directly to a concrete subfloor. This European oak product is wire brushed to add texture and eliminate the softer grain, leaving a more durable walking surface. The Lago Collection offers a rustic grade of European oak so expect mineral streaks, knots, and color variation with this hardwood floor!

European oak is very durable and hard. It is also more rot-resistant than other woods because of its higher tannin level. Tannins are acidic chemicals held in solution in liquid sap. The name comes from the leather tanning industry, as oak and bark were used for tanning leather. European Oak has a gorgeous grain pattern and is very stainable, making it available in almost unlimited colors.

After walking the project with our client, we talked about the layout. “Borders everywhere, even in the closets and under the stairs,” the client said. So, we decided to use the 7” plank to create borders throughout the entire home and the herringbone to fill the rest of the floor. There was over 4000 square feet of herringbone wood flooring used on this project! 
One other detail worth mentioning is the custom stair-nosing made to match out of the existing material for the staircase and catwalk edge.  We crafted the stair-nosing out of the material to ensure the staircase matched the floor and was perfectly complimented by the white risers.
